From wining and dining in Cape Town to hosting a Valentine’s getaway for a Puerto Rican couple, to private cooking classes in Bird Rock, La Jolla, and coordinating a giant team building for Hewlett Packard…it’s any wonder how Chef Jodi has any time to sleep! As busy as Chef Jodi has been during the shortest month of the year, she still has time to wrap up the month’s events before picking up and going-going-going again!
Always exploring the Global Food Scene, Chef Jodi toured South Africa
In the beginning of February, Chef Jodi racked up frequent foodie flyer points, as she set out to explore the cities of Cape Town, Hermanus and Hemel-en-Aarde Valley of South Africa. For two weeks, Chef Jodi learned some fun, new cooking styles, tasted some incredible dishes (added a few new recipes to her repertoire), and sipped some of the most exquisites wines. Chef Jodi came across the coolest sighting, who ever saw a dog drinking coffee at a bar?? Only in South Africa!
When it comes to wines, Chef Jodi has a very specific taste. It was Eikendal Wines, of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley with their incredible red blends that wet Chef Jodi’s palette. The gourmet faire that topped the list came from The Restaurant at Newton Johnson winery, whose head chef, Eric Bulpitt, shared delicious food and his extensive knowledge of wine pairing.
As is recommended of every foodie, Chef Jodi tried the authentic, local dishes of Cape Town, such as calamari served every which way: traditionally deep fried, grilled, and served with Peri-Peri sauce (you bet we have a recipe for Peri-Peri sauce!). Another local dish that Chef Jodi picked up was a recipe for: Malva Pudding, a delicious cake and custard dessert.
Chef Jodi strongly recommends for all foodie to travel to South Africa, “The wines and food of South Africa are as delicious, if not better, than all other super foodie destinations in the world!”
Valentine’s Day at Lajollacooks4U
Moving on, there is always a “Valentine’s Day celebration at Lajollacooks4u!
A lovely Puerto Rican couple, Mario and Blanqui, journeyed off to Lajollacooks4u for a romantic and private, gourmet getaway. The couple adamantly wanted to explore a new cuisine, and couldn’t resist Lajollacooks4u’s specialties: Californian and Mediterranean dishes.
The couple cooked up a delicious gnocchi with a butter sage sauce dish and grilled a flank steak with pesto.
The entire experience of cooking and then dining on the meal they created together was so perfect for the couple. They can’t wait to return over the summer and bring their daughter along, too!
Private Cooking in Bird Rock
Very few things can beat the beautiful views of San Diego, much less in the gorgeous, tucked-away neighborhood of Bird Rock, La Jolla. That’s where Chef Jodi started doing private home lessons with Patty Uribe.
We had a blast cooking and team-building with Hewlett Packard
From around the world, 20 of Hewlett Packard’s Global Technology Sales Team gathered at Lajollacooks4u.
Competition was the name of the cooking game! The group split into two teams: US vs. The World, and opposing team members went head-to-head to complete the mini cooking challenges that created the group’s entire meal. The team’s were being judged by a fine criteria of collaboration, taste and presentation.
Individual awards were also presented to the group, such as Top Chef, which went to Steve H. from the UK, who created a masterful tomato chutney. Second place Top Chef went to Ivonne V., originally from Cuba, who took command and possessed great knowledge of the kitchen, and the Funniest Chef award went to Steve K. from the US.
The team easily concluded that this was one of their best team building events. One of the kindest comments we received from the event was from Director and the event coordinator, Kevin K., who said “Thank you Chef Jodi for hosting such a fantastic team building event for HP. It really exceeded our expectations and everyone seemed to have a great time. Thank you for your attention to details, your energy and fun spirit!”
We love welcoming large groups and teams into our kitchen, and can’t wait to host another fun and hilarious team building event as that one in the near future.
