Stay Cool and Fresh: Herbs and Your Freezer
While some on the east coast are able to keep just about anything frozen in the latest bout of chilly weather, we’d like to remind everyone else of an important storage location in your kitchen: your freezer.
We all know we can freeze main ingredients, such as meats, but did you know you can freeze your fresh herbs, too? Chef Jodi learned this clever trick from Michelin-Starred Chef Julian. Fresh, wet herbs, such as parsley, cilantro, basil and herb bundles, all store nicely in the freezer!
After chopping up and using your required amount of herbs, simply toss the leftovers in a bag, scribble down the date, and set in the freezer. That way, the next time you’re in a pinch for fresh herbs, you can simply infuse your food with what you’ve stored away! And there’s absolutely no need to defrost!
Another fun fact for those of us who like our java rich and flavorful, coffee stores best and stays fresher in the freezer.
